Allen County was established in 1815 and became the 57th county of Kentucky. Parts of Barren and Warren Counties formed the county.

A Brief History of Allen County
The first settlers of Allen County arrived in 1797. The county seat, Scottsville, was named after the current governor of Kentucky, Charles Scott.
A stage line was established between Nashville and Louisville and it passed through Scottsville.
In 1886 the railroad was established and connected to Allen County.
During the Civil War, Confederate Colonel John Huges occupied Scottsville after driving out Union forces.
More than 200 oil drilling rigs operated in Allen County in the early 20th century.
