Adair County was established on December 11, 1801 and became the 44th county of Kentucky. Parts of Green county formed the county.

A Brief History of Adair County
For the first 100 years of Adair County’s existence, transportation was the biggest hindrance for the citizens. In 1910, travelers would have to take a stagecoach to Campbellsville to reach the L & N Railroad.
Transportation was improved when the Cumberland Parkway was built in 1973.
Adair County saw some miner action during the Civil War. The Battle of Gradyville was fought on December 12, 1861.
